COVID-19 Numbers Update
February, 2021
COVID-19 Data Across U.S.
This map indicates COVID-19 cases reported to the CDC over the past 7 days.
The darker the color, the more cases have been reported.
Overall, cases in the US have been steadily decreasing over the last 2 months.
Updated 2/16/2021
Data from covid.cdc.gov
COVID-19 Data in Illinois
Currently seeing a decrease in cases (encompasses confirmed cases and probable cases). Experts were expecting larger surge after holiday season.
All of Illinois entered Phase 4 as part of the state’s Restore Illinois program. All regions of the state have had restrictions loosened due to sustained favorable data.
Necessary to monitor several data points, not solely positivity rate. These factors combined give a better picture of spread of illness and transmission rate.
Updated 2/16/2021
Data from covid.cdc.gov
Cook County Data (School Metrics) from 1/31/21-2/6/21 (data is lagging about 2 weeks due to substantial amount of incoming data):
Test positivity: 4.8%
Target = < 5.0%
Includes confirmed cases + probable cases
New cases per 100,000: 143
Target = less than 50
New cases: 3,532 (stable)
Target = decreasing or stable
Youth case increase: 677 (stable)

COVID-19 Vaccine
In the US, there are 2 FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccines: Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna
COVID-19 Vaccine
CDC recommends the COVID-19 vaccine for all individuals (over the age of 16 for Pfizer-BioNTech and over the age of 18 for Moderna), unless those individuals have had a previous allergic reaction (even if not severe) to any ingredient in an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, or if the individual had an allergic reaction (even if not severe) after the first dose. Those who have had an allergic reaction to any other vaccine or injectable treatment previously should consult with their physician before receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
Most common side effects of both vaccines: pain, swelling & redness at injection site; chills, headache, fatigue (tiredness)
Side effects most commonly appear within first few days of receiving either dose of the vaccine. An overwhelming majority of those who experienced localized or systemic reactions reported they were MILD to MODERATE and recovered in a few days.
Systemic reactions (flu-like symptoms) were more common after the 2nd dose of the vaccine
