{This Week’s Theme}
This week we will start learning all about the local desert habitat. We will discuss the plants and animals that live in a desert and identify the characteristics of a desert. We will be discussing things about Phoenix that show our habitat is the desert. Ask your student about all the animals that make their homes in a saguaro cactus!
We are continuing to focus on beginning sounds in words and letter sounds for a-l. Our letter of the week this week is Ll and our sight word is you. We will also be discussing thanksgiving and the things we are thankful for.
{Curriculum Notes}
We are continuing to practice one to one correspondence in math and we are also working on patterning. The most basic pattern is an AB pattern which just alternates 2 things over and over. During calendar time we have also practiced an AAB pattern and an ABB. Once the students are comfortable recognizing these patterns, they will start to extend them by telling us what comes next and even creating their own patterns.

{Classroom News & Reminders}
Class begins promptly at 8:30am so that we can start our morning routine, which begins with snack. Students are allotted a certain amount of time for morning snack, so when you bring your student in tardy, it delays the beginning of our academic day. Please make sure that your student is signed on the iPad by no later than 8:30 in the morning each day.
Parent/teacher conferences are being held the week of November 4th. You should have received a link via email to sign up. If you did not receive the email, please let me know so I can correct your email address in my list, and go here to sign up for a date and time. Thank you!
{Home/School Connection}
We are starting to focus more on our handwriting, especially Spalding formation of letters. Be sure to help your students use a proper pencil/crayon grip when writing or drawing at home and remind them to always begin forming a letter or a number from the top of the page. Here is a handout with some great information about pencil grasp. http://www.ot-mom-learning-activities.com/support-files/pencil-grasp-development.pdf
At this point, your student should at least be at stage 3, though we are aiming for stage 4 by the end of this school year.
