• Bollywood is the “Hollywood” of India! It starts with a B instead because it is mainly in the city Bombay, just like Hollywood is in LA, California
• So what language are Bollywood movies in?
• First, what language (or languages) are spoken in India?

• In India, 780 different languages are spoken! How many are spoken in the United States?
• India is only one country, just like the United States, but each state speaks a different language/
• Imagine if we spoke a different language than people living in Kentucky or Indiana!

• So, back to our question, what language are Bollywood movies in?
• In this picture, what is the biggest color region?

• The orange- this language is called Hindi.
• It is the most commonly spoken language
• It is taught in every state- think of it as a language class that everyone has to take.
• For example, my parents speak Telugu (blue) but also learned Hindi in school.

• Because it is the most common language, this is the language Bollywood movies are made in
• These movies are enjoyed by people all over India, as well as other countries (people watch with subtitles, like me!)

• Every movie is similar to a musical, where there are dance numbers and songs throughout the movie.
• One of these songs will be the song we will learn a dance to!
