Lesson 4
Career Paths
Activity: Learner Assignment
Activity: Whole Group/Class
Time: 5 mins.
Time: 30-60 mins.
Show the Google slides presentation. Each slide contains a video with class discussion questions. Next, ask the class, "what does it mean to have an entrepreneurial mindset?" Students will be exploring the answer to this question in the following activity. Display the Student Portfolio page and go over the definition of each domain and then navigate to the NFTE page on that domain and go through each part of the page: "Learn", "Explore," and "Take Quiz." Learners will answer the question posed in the Student Portfolio about how they applied the skill set in a work position or team project.
Each domain in the Entrepreneurial Mindset interactive tool can take up to 15 minutes, and therefore, you may have to skip some content in order to review all domains. Consider assigning some of this content for at home learning or a planning for a pop quiz on these skills.
Segway to the next activity with a discussion about how "research shows that an entrepreneurial mindset is valued by employers, boosts educational attainment and performance, and is crucial for creating new businesses." Throughout BevLaunch, participants will be exposed to a number of aspects of launching a business and exploring all the accompanying career opportunities outside of being a founder like marketing and finance.
Assessment (optional)
Asynchronous Learning
The ice breaker is in the Google slides presentation.
Learners visit a Food and Beverage company's website featured in the videos in the Google Slides presentation (Nirvana, Firma, Catapult Commercialization Services, BevSource) and identify roles and/or open positions in each site and put together a job profile using additional resources like the Occupational Outlook Handbook. Research questions to consider: Is the job in a growing field? What factors will impact this role in the future? Consider using the Choice Board from the last Google slides presentation.
The Student portfolio entries in Lesson 4 can be graded.
