Revisiting JSTOR

Initially stated JSTOR was out of scope, and EAST would occasionally revisit retentions

Subsequent discussion on JSTOR incompleteness

690 titles/786 copies with EAST retentions in PAPR are now in JSTOR � and also archived by CRL JSTOR or CDL shared print

247 titles /310 copies if not counting Five Colleges

I wanted to circle back to the Optimal Number of Copies article, as I know a number of you were on the RUSA call where Ian Bogus outlined the model.

I’d like to hear people’s thoughts on this, and what EAST should be doing with this model.

Note that the Collection Analysis Working Group is also looking at this, though more in the context of the newer titles they are analyzing.

I’ve noted the parameters you can dial on the model here - # of copies, copies in storage, time horizon and how confident do you want to be.

Some thoughts are:

Use it to articulate what we are doing now and what that means in terms of preservation of titles

(10% of our titles are 100+ years old, and the 1 of everything else problematic)

Create some guidelines for how EAST, ideally, should think about some of the parameters in the model, e.g. how long of a time horizon?

Are there sections of the collection that should be explored in relation to the model? E.g. things that have only 1 retention
