Why students should apply

  • Portfolios give an opportunity to examine learning and achievements.�
  • Portfolios are useful for job interviews and internships beyond high school.

  • Portfolios provide visual evidence of journalism skills, organization skills, and ability to speak to talents and achievements.�
  • Creating a digital portfolio is a great learning experience.

When…

  • A portfolio is a work in process. The sooner you begin, the more you will consider what type of work and achievements to showcase and the more you will think about yourself in the role of a journalist.�
  • Start now: research your experience and make a list of what to include in the portfolio. Keep adding to the list.�
  • Begin to build your portfolio now and add to it and review it often.�
  • A continual editing process is helpful to build focus and a full body of work

Resume and Letters of Recommendation

Resumes should give a sense of the whole student. These are some areas of focus, loosely in order of importance from first to last

Letters of Recommendation comment on aspects of the student’s journalism experience.

    • Adviser letter

  • Try not to repeat the same types of work if they have parallel value or content
