Sample Experiences

  • Germany - ATLAS - 2 students/breakout room - max~40
  • Angola, Brazil, Germany - successful ALICE masterclasses
  • U.S. - ATLAS&CMS - similar to 2019 but with support videos
  • Poland - cMS - had double the usual number of students, greater reach, lectures on doing measurement very precise - students had success, see contribution from Krzysztof yesterday

Some Conclusions

  • Reaches new, different groups of people
  • Can accommodate more students in diverse locations
  • Students per data file:
    • Synchronous: 2
    • Asynchronous: 1-2
  • Teachers can act as tutors if properly prepared
  • Speakers more inclined to think of needs of students
    • Include surveys, polls, more Q&A in lectures
    • Result: more questions after lectures

    • Continue in 2022+ ?
  • Webinar videocons work - incorporate in IMC 2022?

    • CONDENSED MATTER & LOW TEMPERATURE PHYSICS 2021, Kharkov
    • massive hybrid masterclass 10 June
    • 100 students, 100 teachers participate, 50 at B. Verkin Institute
    • CMS physicists involved
  • UAE - was interested before pandemic, may join 2022

  • Baltic States
    • Lithuania - already strong IMC participant
    • Estonia & Latvia: joining CERN
  • Armenia
    • Already doing CR outreach
    • Strong physics tradition (like Georgia, now firmly in IMC)
  • Zambia - BNL post-doc, ASP alum, interested in returning home

  • New South Wales - use lessons of pandemic to help build masterclasses, engage teachers
  • New countries, new projects - Open to ideas!
