Fees & Forms

  • Pay to Participate
    • $80 per athlete, per sport
    • Students with delinquent fees of any kind from a previous school year, or during the current school year are precluded from participation.
    • ALL FEES must be paid before 1st game!

Eligibility

  • Passing 4 classes and minimum 1.5 GPA

    • Students that do not meet this requirement at the end of a quarter will be ineligible the beginning of next quarter

    • If ineligible cannot attend practices, games,

or travel with the team

Expectations of Athletes

  • In the classroom - Strong academics reinforce strong athletics. Respectful attention to classroom activities and respect shown to peers & staff at all times.

  • On the field/court - A true athlete does is respectful on the field/court and understands losing is part of the game.

  • School Discipline
    • Discipline may result in suspension from athletic practices and/or games.
    • Decision of AD & Principal

  • Participation in athletics and extracurricular activities is a privilege and not a right, and students could be prohibited from participating in such activities based on the decision of administration without hearing and/or appeal.

Attendance Policy

  • Must attend 4 periods of the school day (or half-day equivalent)
    • ALEs, appointments, emergency situations may be excused by AD

  • Absence from Practice/Games

    • Excused

      • Advance notice to coach - coach will reach out to parent to confirm
      • Reason(s) will be considered by the coach as excusable
      • Vacations – Let your coach know at the first official practice
      • A return to participate note is required from a doctor if practices and/or games are missed due to injury or illness per doctor’s orders

Attendance Policy

  • Absence from Practice/Games

    • Unexcused
      • Absences not accepted by coach or AD as excused. For example, athletes may not miss practice/games to participate with a club or travel team

  • Consequences
    • First offense - Suspension for the next contest
    • Second offense - Suspended for next two contests
    • Third offense - Suspension for the remainder of the season

Concussions

  • If a concussion is suspected. . .
    • Immediately removed from practice or game

    • Parents will be notified of possible concussion

    • Not permitted to return until evaluated by a healthcare professional

    • Letter of clearance must be given to coach or turned into AD

  • Board policies 2431, 2431.01, 5340

Weather Cancellations

  • In the event of school closing or early dismissal all practices and/or games will be cancelled.

  • Decisions for a cancellation will be made no later than 2:00 pm

  • Cancellations will be made on the announcements at school and messages will be sent to parents

  • Due our best to work to reschedule games, but not always possible

Equipment

  • Athlete is responsible for proper care and security of lended equipment. All equipment not returned in good condition will be subject to a financial charge.

  • Keep it clean and in the best possible condition. OLSD is not responsible for lost or stolen equipment.

  • All equipment must be returned at the end of the season. Equipment not returned or that is damaged must be paid for at current replacement cost.

In several sports, the athlete will be required to purchase a portion of the uniform, which will become their property.

Sportsmanship

  • RESPECT THE GAME

  • Our athletes are only 12 – 14 years old

  • You are expected to:
    • Know and demonstrate sportsmanship
    • Respect, cooperate, and respond enthusiastically to the athletes of all teams
    • Be positive toward players and coaches regardless of the outcome
    • Respect the judgement of officials and coaches

RESPECT THE GAME

  • If you are ejected from a contest you will be subject to an additional two-game suspension (one game in football).
  • If you are ejected from a contest for the second time during the same season then you will be ineligible for the remainder of that sports season.

Procedure for Concerns

  • When a complaint is made (board, board member, Superintendent, Principal, AD), referred to AD and coach is informed.

  • Step 1 - Direct Conversation
    • Coach(es) meet with parent as soon as possible.

  • Step 2 - Fact & Possible Resolution
    • If you or the coach is not satisfied with the outcome of Step 1
    • Meeting arranged with parents, coach, and AD
    • Informal
    • No further action taken unless a signed & dated complaint of facts giving rise to concern.

  • Step 3 - Formal Process
    • If not resolved in Step 1 or Step 2, refer concern to Principal in writing
    • Meeting arranged with coach & Principal

The decision of the Principal is final.

Parent Square

  • ParentSquare is a unified, school-to-home communications platform to helps parents stay informed of all things happening with their school/team.
  • With ParentSquare, parents will receive all district, school, classroom, and group/team communication in one place, with options to specify how (email, text, or app) and when (instant, digest) they are notified.
  • With ParentSquare, parents can enjoy photos, fill out forms and permission slips, sync calendars, RSVP for events, sign up to volunteer, and much more.
  • Coaches, parents, and students can engage in both one-to-one and group messaging with real-time language translation, similar to tools like Remind.

Game Day/Practice Information

  • Practice time communicated by coach(es)

  • Game times - 5:00 or 5:30 depending on location

  • If late practice or game, students cannot stay after school
    • Meals for games will be arranged with coaches

Transportation

  • Bus will pick – up and drop – off behind the school
  • Transportation to & from games, unless otherwise noted
  • Tournament transportation may vary, coach will communicate
  • You may take ONLY YOUR CHILD home from away games.
    • If a parent requests their child ride home with you, 24 hours notice must be given to the coach
    • Please adhere to your coach’s procedure for taking your child

  • Be on time when picking up your child. Coaches have to wait & have things to do, just like you.
