Quick Guide to High School Application Process

Outside of Wake County?

  • Check district website for enrollment instructions
  • Enrollment process in Johnston, Harnett, Chatham and Lee counties is very similar to Wake County

Overview of enrollment

  • Find your base school
  • Begin enrollment process online via WCPSS new student enrollment website
  • Complete the enrollment process with in-person appointment at school
    • Cannot make this appointment until you have student’s final report card
    • This is when your child will register for their fall classes!

Enrolling online

  • After finding your base school, you will apply online
  • If you don’t already have one, you will need to create an account
  • Documents needed (upload to account)
    • Proof of residency
    • Picture of photo ID
    • Child’s birth certificate
    • Discipline affidavit- parents sign, NOT PSPA
      • Must be notarized

Set up enrollment appointment

  • Once you have received your child’s report card at the end of the year
    • Call base school (student services) to set up enrollment appointment
    • You will need the following documents
      • Birth certificate
      • Immunization record
      • Health assessment
      • Powerschool parent portal application
      • Transportation form
    • Your child will sign up for classes at this appointment-because we are a charter school and not Wake County, your child cannot register for classes before this appointment
    • Contact the school early/mid June to set up an appointment- your child must attend

Magnet Schools

  • Must enroll at child’s base school first
  • Once you have completed online enrollment form, you may begin the online Magnet School application
  • Find a list of WCPSS Magnet schools here
  • For the 2025-2026 school year, the Early College application will be open from October 14 through December 12. The application for Magnet and Year-Round schools will be open from October 14 through January 23. Applications are not first-come, first-served.

  • Find your base school
  • Enroll in base school
  • IF you are zoned for FG, school will contact you

  • Transfer Period is March 4-15, 2024

Other school choices (charter and private)

  • It is recommended that you enroll your student at your base school *just in case*
  • Visit websites and go on school tours to get information about applications, tuition, lottery system, etc.

Athletic Participation

  • Many fall sports have workouts and tryouts over the summer.
  • Must follow WCPSS athletic participation guidelines
  • Contact your school’s athletic director for more information
  • Check school calendars for information nights in the spring

Important Dates and Suggestions

  • Check your base school and enroll as a new student as early as October 16, 2024
    • Capped schools- have to have lived at address since 3/16/2021
    • Need closing statement and current utility bill
    • May be “capped out” to another school-put on wait list
    • Transportation will be provided, unless student doesn’t accept wait list spot
    • Call registrar at school for more information
  • Report cards are finalized after May 23, 2024- contact MRichter@pinespringsprep.org for transcripts
  • Make an appointment with student services at your child’s school

Math and Spanish

  • Grade will be part of their transcript/Powerschool
  • Math 1 and Spanish 1- credit received upon passing the EOC

Math options:

-Math 1 students move to Math 2 or Math 2 honors, Math 2 moves to Math 3 or Math 3 honors

-Math 8 students move to Math 1 or Math 1 honors
