TWO KINDS OF DAYS

  • Learning Days (in person)
    • You sit in your assigned seat with your Chromebook
    • We do an activity together as a class or individually on your laptop
    • Dr. Fowler teaches you something and you learn it
  • Working Days
    • You come in, sit in your seat with your laptop, and wait for instructions
    • Then, you can move out of your seat to film or edit or do whatever you’re working on at the time

  • No fighting, stealing, lying, or cheating

CLASSROOM GUIDELINES

  • Come in, stay in, sit down, follow the directions displayed on the Promethean board (usually will be a starter)
  • Respect and take care of class equipment and supplies
  • Treat everyone with respect and dignity
  • Bring your charged Chromebook EVERYDAY. Your Chromebook is to this class what an instrument is to band or strings; you can’t do this class without it.
  • Follow all school and district rules and policies

FORBIDDEN ITEMS

  • Cell phones

  • Cell phone accessories such as AirPods

  • Food or drink, other than bottled water

  • Anything that serves as a distraction to your classmates’ learning and Dr. F’s instruction

GUIDELINES CONTINUED

  • Stay in your assigned seat until SPECIFICALLY TOLD by Dr. Fowler that you may move

  • Avoid intentional disruptions during
    • Dr. F’s instruction
    • Dr. F giving directions for activities
    • Classmates asking questions and receiving answers from Dr. F
    • Dr. F’s working with students at her desk or their desk area (for ex, when transferring camera footage)

GUIDELINES CONTINUED

  • Do not shout across the room or speak unnecessarily loudly to others

  • Respect everyone in this class. Do not touch people.

  • Do not take or touch others’ possessions

  • Use class time productively. Group work collaboration time is just that; it is not social time for hanging out with your friends.

  • Do not leave the room without permission FOR ANY REASON

LEAVING CLASS POLICY

  • Once you’re in, you’re in. Don’t dump your stuff and leave. Don’t try to sneak away while Dr. Fowler is distracted.

  • Wandering out into the hallway without specific permission will be considered leaving class and will result in an office referral

  • Bathroom and water breaks are only if necessary. Don’t abuse the privilege. Sign out on SmartPass AFTER getting permission from Dr. F to go on your errand

TARDY POLICY

  • We will follow the school tardy policy
    • Tardies 1 through 3 = warning
    • Tardy 4 = parent phone call and lunch detention
    • Tardy 5 and higher = office referral

2024-25 FILMING PROTOCOLS

  • Available filming spaces
  • Outside (we will all go out together)
  • Teachers who let us use their rooms
  • Hallways near Dr. F’s room, depending on the time of day
  • You are NOT ALLOWED to
    • Go to the door of a random teacher who has students
    • Go anywhere besides your SmartPass destination
    • Get students out of class
    • Go anywhere unbeknownst to Dr. Fowler

  • If you violate the broadcast journalism filming code of behavior, you (and/or your group members) will get GROUNDED

DISMISSAL

  • DO NOT HUDDLE AT THE DOOR RIGHT BEFORE THE BELL!
  • Don’t try to sneak away early.
  • Wait for Dr. Fowler to dismiss you.

  • Major grades count 50%
    • Tests (graphic design, website design, video editing)
    • Projects (7th & 8th)
    • 6th: News Report
  • Minor grades count 50%
    • Classwork, quizzes, note-taking activities, graphics, writings, self-evaluations

ADVICE FOR SUCCEEDING IN THIS CLASS

  • Care.
  • Balance your fun with your work.
  • Don’t require a babysitter.
    • If you can’t do what you’re supposed to do unless a teacher is staring right at you all the time, then you will require Dr. F to stare at you all the time…which means a lot less fun and freedom.
  • Have good ideas. Share your ideas. Think of ways that YOU can make the news show better through your own creations and contributions.

  • Google Classroom (almost all your assignments will be posted in Classroom)
