I’m new to FamilySearch Family Tree. I have an account, but even though I come from an old pioneer family, I am all alone on my family tree. Must I enter all that information again?

No! But remember: Privacy Laws Matter.

  • Only dead people show up publically on FamilySearch family tree. If you or a patron you are helping have living parents and grandparents, you will need to add these living individuals in order to connect with your deceased ancestors, who will show up in FamilySearch family tree.

  • This is not a difficult process. The program prompts lead new patrons carefully through the process, and they are excited to see their tree fill up.
  • Find a young person who needs to get started on FamilySearch Family Tree. Then you can see these getting started screens and know for yourself how easy it is to help others begin to use this wonderful online program.
  • Remember as you help new patrons get started
    • Touch their hearts with photos and stories when these are in their trees.
    • Show them the “Get Help” resources so that they can become independent.
