To fight against these weather conditions �architects have become creative with their home design to prevent destruction.

• A stilt home is an elevated structure anchored to wood or concrete piers.
• A stilt home is usually found in coastal areas such as Florida.

• A stilt home is designed to deal with flood plain areas.
• Pilings may be constructed of wood, concrete, steel or even composite materials. And they are usually driven, augured or jetted into place. 

Monolithic dome homes

• A Monolithic dome home is another attempt to create a home that can withstand hurricanes amongst other natural disasters.

These homes are great for coastal regions that experience hurricanes yearly.

The domes are considered super structures due to the shape and building materials of concrete and steel reinforcing rebar.

• Students are to identify the advantages of each house style, piling stilt, and monolithic dome.
• Students are to brainstorm and write a paragraph on how they could image a house of the future being able to withstand the forces of a hurricane.
• Deliverables: submit typed answers to Instructor via email or schoology.
