Owen Intermediate School starts every day with our morning announcements by Mr. Salhaney. Our days are labeled Orange or Black days as students will have different Encore classes on different days. No worries because it is real easy to keep track of.

Each student has a homeroom and a “switch room”. One teacher leads ELA and Social Studies and the other leads Math and Science.

They will have a 90-minute period of Math and ELA along with a 50-minute period of Science and Social Studies daily.

Finally, all of our students will have one encore class and a daily 15 minute recess.

Our school provides direct services to students in Reading and Math.

We utilize small group instruction and the Leveled Literacy Intervention program to support students who need an additional “boost” to get caught up. In math we use a small group approach with online programming. Our interventionists are Ms. Altenbernt, Ms. Johnson, Ms. Stiles and Ms. Moore.

We also have instructional coaches that support teachers with improving classroom instruction and curriculum planning. Ms. Moore works part-time as a math coach and Ms. Smith is our full time reading coach.

The favorite part of the day for most of our kids is….you guessed it, lunchtime!

We offer hot lunch and a snack cart with some sweet treats for students to purchase. Our Tiger Store is open during lunchtime where students can utilize their Tiger Tickets.

Lunch is a time for students to and socialize with friends from their other classroom. Sometimes we listen to music or watch a short video.

Thanks

A HUGE thanks to our District Technology Coaches Jason Strzalkowski and Stefanie Halliday for their design and insight into our Virtual Transition Slide Show. Also, to all of the staff that voiced the slides. It was a team project.
