Malaysia Fashion’s Environment Impact
- Current Fashion Issues in Malaysia
Fashion is one of big business in Malaysia, with more than one in ten (12%) estimating that they own over 100 garments (excluding underwear or accessories). Millennials (those aged between 16 and 34) have the highest proportion of new clothing; 37% of millennials say they have purchased at least half of the clothes that they own in the past year alone. This compares with 23% of baby boomers (those over 55) that say the same.
27% of Malaysians have thrown away clothing after wearing it just once
One in ten millennials (10%) say that, in general, they keep their clothes for under a year before throwing them away. 6% of baby boomers say the same.

Reason to throw away clothing
It no longer fits me
It’s damaged
It has developed a fault
It’s more than a few seasons old
I’m bored of wearing it
It’s now become unfashionable
I bought it in sale on impulse
I only bought it for a one off occasion
I’ve seen someone else i know or friend wearing it
It remind me of an ex partner
Other
Don’t know
I would never throw away an item of clothing
The latest research reveals the extent of clothes waste in Malaysia. It finds that seven in ten Malaysians (68%) have thrown clothes away at some point in the past year and a quarter (25%) have thrown away more than ten items of clothing in the past year.

The bigger picture
On the other end of the scale, as many as 25% of Filipinos, 21% of Malaysians and 21%of Indonesians have not thrown away any items of clothing in the past year.
Vietnamese and Chinese consumers are the most likely to keep clothes for under a year before throwing them away, where 27% and 23% do so (respectively).
Australians, Hong Kongers and Singaporeans are the least likely to keep their clothes for under a year – just 4%, 6% and 6% (respectively) say the same.

The outside of the zine is a proportionately 3 different culture clothes pattern, replete with pallu, batik, cheongsam pattern. Hung on a replica wire hanger, the inside of the zine describes its wearer. What is found on the inside of the 3 culture.
Page 2 / Zine Design Idea 1
It is always a tricky task to balance different styles, we want to sell what’s popular and yet to create a new look.we try to keep it controlled and appealing, not to lose the essence of the malaysia culture brand. With time, clients can embrace new ideas and get excited about what is next for them.
