1. President

  • Represents student body at school activities.
  • Develops agenda for and presides at student council meetings
  • Knows the basic rules of parliamentary procedure.
  • Votes when there is a tie.
  • Conducts him/herself with academic integrity and exemplary conduct
  • Delegate duties as needed to other student body officers

2. Vice President

  • Represents the study body at the request of the president.
  • Knows the basic rules of parliamentary procedure.
  • Serves in the absence of the president.
  • Oversees assigned responsibilities.
  • Conducts him/herself with academic integrity and exemplary conduct
  • In charge of all interclass communication

3. Secretary

  • Keeps accurate minutes of all meetings, take attendance, makes agenda with President
  • Handles all council correspondence
  • Reports at each meeting the minutes from previous meeting.
  • Types materials for student council officers.
  • Conducts him/herself with academic integrity and exemplary conduct.

4. Treasurer

  • Presents proposed budget of activities to the student council.
  • Handles all funds.
  • Keeps accurate record on income and expenses.
  • Reports at each meeting on money matters
  • Coordinates fundraising projects of the student council.
  • Conducts him/herself with academic integrity and exemplary conduct.

Who can run for office?

  • 9-12 grade, Current 8-11 graders
  • President must be a senior.
  • Must be in good academic (3.0 GPA) and attendance standing.

May 5-19

  • Must attend the meeting on May 5th or plan to meet with the Student Council Advisor Prior to running.

May 5-11th: Petition period

  • Get petitions signed by 10 students from Carey School. Remind those who sign they can NOT sign anyone else's or yours will be void. Get 12 just in case.
  • 2 Teachers’ Recommendations
  • $200 Limit for campaign funding

May 5th-19th

  • Full 1 Page essay, 12 size font, double-spaced as to why you would be good in that office. What are your plans. If less than a page you will not be considered. May 11th
  • High school transcripts May 11th
  • Forms turned in by May 11th @
  • Election speech due May 18th @ assembly
  • Voting by the end of lunch May 19th.

Cautions about campaigning

  • Destroying posters of defaming candidates will be cause for disqualification. This includes on social media and electronically.
  • Posters must be taken down May 19th. Make sure you leave it better than when you found it.
