Top tips for creating an impactful presentation

    • Keep it simple and limit the amount of text on slides (PowerPoint is an aide to a presenter not a replacement)
    • Always think about your audience needs and tailor the information to suit
    • Limit the amount of transitions and animations so as not to distract from your core message
    • Respect the University of Nottingham brand and identity
    • Use visuals such as charts and images to represent key information (keep clear space around them)
    • Use high-quality and authentic imagery (avoid using clip art)
    • Use video or audio when appropriate (can be more engaging)
    • Use colour for emphasis, distinction and clarity (be careful not to overuse or it will detract)
    • Think about accessibility (text size as large as possible, high colour contrasts, limited fonts, avoid upper case)
    • Prepare, practise and access presentation skills training if required

  • Quality Assurance -UoN monitoring of programme delivery
  • Our approach is based on the Japanese principles of hansei and kaizenHansei is a Japanese word which means “relentless reflection.” It is a central idea in Japanese culture, and it is about acknowledging one's own faults and always trying to correct them. Kaizen means “continuous improvement,” and practiced together they help to build a learning organization.
