What is CTE?

CTE stands for Career Technical Education

CTE classes are educational pathway courses that focus on a specific industry field ex: education, medical, financial, etc.

CTE classes prepares students for high wage, high skill, high demand careers in established & emerging industries

In these classes, students learn real life technical skills based on industry standards

Also included in CTE pathways are:
Industry certifications which are available to students within a pathway have increased. (Example: Patient Care pathway – CPR and First Aid Certification)

Work-based learning opportunities have increased through the establishment of new partnerships . As part of pathway courses students may have work-based learning placements (community classroom placement) (Automotive Pathway - students placed at Future Ford for hands-on training)

Articulation with local colleges is ongoing with a focus on Dual enrollment --- CUSD students are enrolled in a college course and receive both high school and college credit. ( Careers with Children – Students are enrolled in Child Dev. 1 at Clovis Community College – receiving both high school and college credit)

Pathway Courses

Exploring Computer Science Exploring Computer Science is a yearlong course consisting of 6 units, approximately 6 weeks each; Human Computer Interaction, Problem Solving, Web Design, Programming, Computing and Data Analysis, and Robotics.

AP Computer Science Principles uses code.org to traverse the major components of computer science, starting with the internet, moving through programming and finishing with robotics.

AP Computer Science A is both a college-prep course for potential computer science majors and a foundation course for student planning to study in other technical fields such as engineering, physics, chemistry and geology. Uses Java programming language.
