  • Introduce them to matching equations

My MAGICal Experience: Goals

15 of 44

What We Did

  • Created a simple website using html and css
  • On website is a game created using javascript
  • Game is another version of the memory game using elementary addition equations
  • Goal is to match equations
  • Example: 7+4 and 6+5

Resources:

  • Learned languages using Codeacademy
  • Textedit to write my code
  • We3Schools
  • Mentor’s advice and guidance

Highlights:

  • Learned various languages of code (HTML, CSS, and JS
  • Learned more about pseudocode
  • Became better at managing my time

My MAGICal Experience

Challenges:

  • Javascript syntax
  • Learning all 3 languages and having time to code the game
  • Connecting over FaceTime

18 of 44

  • Still working on my game
  • Would have liked to either learned the languages quicker or created a simpler game so I could have focused more on learning the basics of code
  • Want to master Javascript because coding really interest me

  • Many students tend to forget about important events at school
  • Connection between grade levels is a bit “awkward”
  • What is the best way that students and teachers can keep in touch of what is going on at school, as well as to make the environment more comforting/safe?

Building a website (for the Middle School) which includes all the news going on around campus and a community calendar which has all the important events and spirit days written down.

Problem?

23 of 44

  • Main goal: discovering more about the world of computer science -- success!
  • Enhanced my skills in HTML and CSS
  • Learned along the way how to use JavaScript as well as Python (for fun)
  • Using Sublime and different softwares/tools/tips that my mentor taught me
  • Overall, a great MAGICal experience!
