I can show love and kindness to those around me

SCRIPTURE

8 And Naomi said unto her two daughters in law, Go, return each to her mother’s house: the LORD deal kindly with you, as ye have dealt with the dead, and with me.

14-15 And…Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her. And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law.

16 And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:

17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.

I can show love and kindness to those around me

Thomas S. Monson

President of the Church

2008 - 2018

We cannot truly love God if we do not love our fellow travelers on this mortal journey…We are all spirit children of our Heavenly Father and, as such, are brothers and sisters. As we keep this truth in mind, loving all of God’s children will become easier…

Usually our love will be shown in our day-to-day interactions one with another. All important will be our ability to recognize someone’s need and then to respond…Every day of our lives we are given opportunities to show love and kindness to those around us…May we begin now, this very day, to express love to all of God’s children, whether they be our family members, our friends, mere acquaintances, or total strangers.

- President Thomas S. Monson, “Love- the Essence of the Gospel,”General Conference, April 2014

Christ can turn tragedy into triumph

SCRIPTURE

9 And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was […] Mahlon’s, of the hand of Naomi.

10 Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day.

13 So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife…and she bare a son.

14 And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the LORD, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel.

15 And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him.

Christ can turn tragedy into triumph

D. Todd Christofferson

Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

Even when we are found faithfully keeping the commandments, there are trials and tragedies that could interrupt our joy. But as we strive to overcome these challenges with the Savior’s help, it preserves both the joy we feel now and the joy we anticipate. Christ reassured His disciples, “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” It is in turning to Him, obeying Him, binding ourselves to Him that trial and sorrow are turned to joy.

…I testify that joy is a gift for faithful Saints “who have endured the crosses of the world” and who are “intentionally trying to live a righteous life, as taught by Jesus Christ.”

- Elder D. Todd Christofferson, “The Joy of the Saints,”General Conference, October 2019

Peace in Christ(2018 Mutual Theme Song)

MUSIC

1. There is peace in Christ

When we learn of Him.

Feel the love He felt for us

When He bore our sins.

Listen to His words.

Let them come alive.

If we know Him as He is,

There is peace in Christ.

2. There is peace in Christ

When we walk with Him

Through the streets of Galilee

To Jerusalem.

Mend the broken hearts.

Dry the tear-filled eyes.

When we live the way He lived,

There is peace in Christ.

Chorus:

He gives us hope

When hope is gone.

He gives us strength

When we can’t go on.

He gives us shelter

In the storms of life.

When there’s no peace on earth,

There is peace in Christ.

I can trust that God will guide and help me regardless of my situation

I can trust that God will guide and help me regardless of my situation

SCRIPTURE

1-2 Now there was a certain man…and his name was Elkanah…And he had two wives; and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

6 And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb.

7 And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.

8 Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?

- 1 Samuel 1:1-2, 6-8

I can trust that God will guide and help me regardless of my situation

Gerrit W. Gong

Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

Trust becomes real when we do hard things with faith. Service and sacrifice increase capacity and refine hearts. Trust in God and each other brings heaven’s blessings…We can always trust God. The Lord knows us better and loves us more than we know or love ourselves. His infinite love and perfect knowledge of past, present, and future make His covenants and promises constant and sure.

Trust what the scriptures call “in process of time.” With God’s blessing, process of time, and continuing faith and obedience, we can find resolution and peace…Trust God and His miracles. We and our relationships can change. Through the Atonement of Christ the Lord, we can put off our selfish natural self and become a child of God, meek, humble, full of faith and appropriate trust…

I Will Walk with Jesus(Primary 2020 Theme Song)

MUSIC

1. Jesus walked in wisdom; Jesus grew in truth.

He showed love to God and man while in His youth.

Jesus wants to guide me. Jesus shows the way,

Calling me to come and walk with Him each day.

2. I can grow like Jesus. I will try each day,

Promising to walk His path and there to stay.

Standing by my Savior, safe within His care,

Step by step I’ll follow, and His love I’ll share.

3. I will trust in Jesus. I will hear His call.

He will never leave me, even when I fall.

Jesus gives me power, lifts and comforts me,

Helping me to live and grow eternally.

Words: Mary M. Dodge, about 1831–1905

Music: W. K. Bassford, 1839–1902

Chorus:

As I walk with Jesus to my home above,

He will bless me with His Spirit and fill me with His love,

Heavenly Father hears and answers my prayers

Heavenly Father hears and answers my prayers

SCRIPTURE

9 So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.

10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.

11 And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.

17 Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.

20 Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.

Heavenly Father hears and answers my prayers

Richard G. Scott

Former Member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

Communication with our Father in Heaven is not a trivial matter. It is a sacred privilege. It is based upon unchanging principles. When we receive help from our Father in Heaven, it is in response to faith, obedience, and the proper use of agency…Don’t worry about your clumsily expressed feelings. Just talk to your Father. He hears every prayer and answers it in His way…

If you seek His help, be sure your life is clean, your motives are worthy, and you’re willing to do what He asks—for He will answer your prayers. He is your loving Father; you are His beloved child. He loves you perfectly and wants to help you.

A Child’s Prayer(Children’s Songbook #12)

MUSIC

1. Heavenly Father, are you really there?

And do you hear and answer ev’ry child’s prayer?

Some say that heaven is far away,

But I feel it close around me as I pray.

Heavenly Father, I remember now

Something that Jesus told disciples long ago:

“Suffer the children to come to me.”

Father, in prayer I’m coming now to thee.

2. Pray, he is there;

Speak, he is list’ning.

You are his child;

His love now surrounds you.

He hears your prayer;

He loves the children.

Of such is the kingdom,

the kingdom of heav’n.

My heart can rejoice in the Lord

SCRIPTURE

1 And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.

2 There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.

7 The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up.

8 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD’s, and he hath set the world upon them.

- 1 Samuel 2:1-2, 7-8

My heart can rejoice in the Lord

Susan W. Tanner

Former Young Women General President

In the Book of Mormon, Nephi speaks often of delight. He delights “in the things of the Lord,” “in the scriptures,” and “in the great and eternal plan” of our Father in Heaven…We too should delight in the things of the Lord for it will “lift” our hearts and give us cause to “rejoice”…

“My soul delighteth in the things of the Lord”—His law, His life, His love. To delight in Him is to acknowledge His hand in our lives. Our gospel duty is to do what is right and to love and delight in what is right. When we delight to serve Him, our Father in Heaven delights to bless us. “I, the Lord, … delight to honor those who serve me in righteousness and in truth unto the end”. I want to be worthy always of His delight.

Beautiful Savior (Children’s Songbook #62)

MUSIC

1. Fair is the sunshine,

Fairer the moonlight

And all the stars in heav’n above;

Jesus shines brighter,

Jesus shines purer

And brings to all the world his love.

2. Fair are the meadows,

Fairer the woodlands,

Robed in the flowers of blooming spring;

Jesus is fairer,

Jesus is purer.

He makes the sorrowing spirit sing.

SCRIPTURE

1 And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision.

3-4 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep; That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.

7-8 Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him. …And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child.

9 Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

10 And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

We should listen to and obey the voice of the Lord

Francisco J. Viñas

Of the Seventy

The admonition to listen attentively to the word of the Lord has been repeated in all dispensations. In His earthly ministry, the Savior frequently declared these words: “He that hath ears to hear, let him hear”…

…[F]or those who not only hear but those who hearken to the Lord’s voice, the Lord calls them “mine elect,” “for mine elect hear my voice and harden not their hearts”. I believe that our ability and our willingness to hear can be increased and that our ears can be opened to hear clearly the voice of the Lord…Through humility and prayer we can develop and improve our capacity to be attentive to the words of life which will bless our lives and the lives of our families.

- Elder Francisco J. Viñas, “Listening to the Voice of the Lord,”General Conference, October 1996

If I Listen with My Heart(Music for Children)

MUSIC

1. If I had been a little child when Jesus lived on earth,

I would have liked to walk with Him and listen to His words,

But as I search the scriptures I can hear His words of peace

2. I hear a living prophet speak the things that Christ would say

If He were here upon the earth to talk with me today,

The prophet teaches how to live in righteousness and peace

3. I feel the Holy Spirit as he teaches truth and right,

He comforts me in times of need, He testifies of Christ,

He speaks to me in quiet ways that fill my soul with peace
