Play a Rhyming Game!
This game will allow your child to explore academics by recognizing pattern clues, like rhyming words, as part of a word family. It will also allow them to practice what it means to take turns and how to lose without getting upset. One of the difficulties in the virtual environment is the interactive learning that comes with being face-to-face and “living” a day to day existence with people outside of your home. This game is a great step in learning some of those very important (non-academic) skills.
MATH
Please continue to work on your NWEA Pathblazer progress.
Try out a fun new math site called Zearn! Zearn will supplement your child’s math content and weekly work. To login visit zearn.org. Your kindergartener should login with their last name, first initial and the number 1. ( example for me: tiesworthm1)The password for kindergarteners is: kindEnter the class code: C52J9J
Learn all about Zearn on the following slides.
Continue with Zearn Math!
Completing Digital LessonsYour student should aim to complete 2 digital lessons each week. To complete a digital lesson, students will need access to their device, as well as paper and pencil to work through student notes. Digital Lessons take about 30 minutes and include four components:
Number GymLesson-aligned Fluency workGuided PracticeTower of Power
The lesson is completed once the student has finished the Tower of Power. Zearn’s website has a 15-minute recorded webinar designed for parents, caregivers, and families that provides an overview of digital lessons, how to log in, tips for supporting your student, and answers to frequently asked questions.
SCIENCE
Unit One: Plant and Animal SecretsThis week’s lesson: Animals and the Changing EnvironmentThis week’s question: How do animals make their homes in the forest?
Lesson SlidesFollow this lesson step by step. If the lesson refers to sharing with a classmate, you can share with a family member in your household.
AssignmentGo on a nature walk near your home. Can you find animal homes in the grassy lawn, in the town park, or in a tree? Look for ant hills, spiderwebs, birds in the trees, and insects in the grass. Where are their homes?
Draw a picture of the homes you found on your journey. Have your parents label them and share them with your mentor teacher at your next Google Meet.
