School Improvement Plan Goals 2022-2024

Instructional Excellence:Preparing Students for Life

  • Reading Goal: By June 2024 Smith Middle School students will achieve all ESSA expected annual improvement goals for each underperforming student group as measured by Reading EOG scores.

  • Math Goal: By June 2024 Smith Middle School students will achieve all ESSA expected annual improvement goals for each underperforming student group as measured by Math EOG scores.

  • TSI/ATSI Student Group(s) Goals: By June 2024 Smith Middle School will take steps to improve the growth index in all student groups with the following targeted goals: Black (0.1), Multiracial (-1), White (2.0), EDS (1.8), Multilingual Learners (2.0), SWD (2.0). This is overall growth for Reading, Math, and Science combined.

  • Multi-Language Learner Acquisition Goal: By June 2024 Smith Middle School Multi-language students (MLS) will increase proficiency by 3.47 percentage points as measured by ACCESS scores.

Creating a Culture of Safety and Wellness

  • Reduction of Discipline Referrals/Discipline Disproportionality Goal: By June 2024 Smith Middle School students will increase their perception data around student-teacher relationships to 71%, school climate to 58%, and school safety to 76% as reported by Panorama SEL screeners.

  • Strengthening Family and Community Engagement Goal: By June 2024 Smith Middle will host family and community engagement 4 events.
    • Goal Met - Events: Rise Against Hunger, STEAM Day, Global Connections, Field Day, and Basketball Shootout.

Empowering, Equipping and Investing in Our People

  • Empowering, Equipping and Investing in Our People: By June 2024 on selected questions on the TWC survey, 76.5% of teachers will give positive ratings around facilities and resources (86.2%, Met) , managing student conduct (66.2%), school leadership (73.4%), instructional practices and support (86.6%), equity (80.9%), and safety (86.4%) .

A4.01 - The school implements a tiered instructional system that allows teachers to deliver evidence-based instruction aligned with the individual needs of students across all tiers.

their emotions, and arrange for supports and interventions.

B1.03 - A Leadership Team consisting of the principal, teachers who lead the Instructional Teams, and other professional staff meets regularly (at least twice a month) to review implementation of effective practices.

Celebrations and Growth Opportunities

  • Opening of Smith Middle School Family Room and Resource Center (Family Room)

  • Affinity Groups hosted weekly (during lunch periods) to support students of color are impacting student progress and growth

  • Latinx students grew 9.7 points in Math and 5.7 in Reading during 23-24 school year

  • ML students increased 10.9 growth and 7.1 proficiency

  • SWD students increased 6.2 growth and performance improved from F to D

  • EL students met target growth for TSI

  • Met ESSA target goal
