Aristotle | Believed that the Earth was at the centre of the universe and all planets moved around it. | ||
Ptolemy | Also believed the earth was at the centre of the universe. Other planets and the Sun move around the Earth in circles. | ||
Copernicus | Believed that the Sun was at the centre of the universe and the planets moved around it. The Earth is also rotating as well as revolving. | ||
Galileo | Also believed the the Sun was at the centre and planets orbited around it. He used a telescope to prove this. | ||

He was put under house arrest for being the first person to use a telescope on the night sky to observe. He spoke out about his views of the Earth orbiting around the Sun and the Church of Italy was not happy. He was forced to recant his ideas. |
