The name of one of the merging chapters should be retained to maintain continuity, preserve history, and avoid the need to obtain a new EIN and establish new bank accounts.

and which chapter will cease to exist (name will be retired).

Members of both chapters must approve the decision.

The president and treasurer of the dissolved or discontinued chapter must close all financial accounts.

These accounts include, but are not limited to, checking, savings, scholarship/grants, investments, certificates of deposit, and gifted or bequeathed funds.

The financial institution(s) shall issue bank check(s) representing the full amounts in all accounts payable to the continuing chapter (merge) or the NC DKG treasurer (dissolve).

The discontinued chapter remits the bank check(s) to the continuing chapter.

The dissolved chapter remits the bank check(s) to the NC DKG Treasurer.

The financial assets of a chapter are entrusted to their care, but are legally owned by

The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.

Funds may not legally be distributed to members,

non-members, a different organization, spent on members,

or provide member or non-member dues, awards or gifts.

Be cautious and watchful...

Do not allow the officers, the membership, or Executive Board to vote to direct your president and treasurer to commit mismanagement, misappropriation of funds, or theft by adopting the illegal spending of funds

The discontinued chapter treasurer or the dissolved chapter treasurer must file a final

IRS 990N during the period of July 1 – November 15.

A motion to merge chapters must be approved by the NC DKG Executive Board.

The NC DKG president completes the

Form 311 – Report for Merging and submits to DKG.

Form 311 must be signed by a representative and the treasurer of the discontinued and the continuing chapters.

A motion to dissolve a chapter must be approved by the NC DKG Executive Board.

The NC DKG president completes the

Form 310 – Report for Dissolution and submits to DKG.
