Engaged in Preparatory Committee:

Having

Experiences of previous WSFs as participants,

Knowledge about the history and princilples of WSF,

Direct contact with some of the IC Members of WSF

First of all joined the preliminary meetings from December, 2022

Later NoC was formed, and HNN became Member of NoC

NOC formed 9 Sub-committees.

HNN was selected as a Co-ordinator of Program and Methodology Sub-Committee and member of Art and Culture Sub-committee as well

And contributed as a member of core-committee with key role

Themes and Methodology of WSF2024 Nepal

  • Earlier there were only 9 themes in WSF
  • NOC and specially the P/M Sub-committee worked hard to add 4 more themes in the WSF2024 Nepal
  • Amongst them ‘ Health, Universal Social Protection and Equality’ is the one.

Participation in WSF2024 Nepal

1200 + organizations registered

400+ activities organized in which 42 were forums and assemblies:

Labours Forum, Feminist Forum, Farmers Forum, Migrant Workers Forum, Youth Forum etc.

38 out-door activities like street drama, art and cultural shows were performed

Nearly 34 thousand people joined the Solidarity March on 15th Feb.

Declarations

Self-Declarations /Statements were made on the 19th February by almost participating organization

So far, more than 70 Statements have already uploaded in their Space and the process is still continued.

Challenges:

No suitable venue

No cooperation from the Government

Lack of fund

Political Influence

Risk of WSF to be captured by the Capitalism

Hidden interest of the organisations

Poor level of coverage by the media

Opportunities:

Pleasant Weather at the time in Kathmandu

Warm hospitality of Nepalese

Civic Space

Lesson learnt:

  1. Need to re-instate our civic space that we had gained earlier.
  2. Need to build social venues
  3. Logistic arrangement matters.
