Injection Modeling Basics

A: Over the course of this project, a few pieces of learning stood out to us.

First, the most important dimensions are those that are shared amongst ourselves and with the Lego chassis. If those aren’t right the first time, you’re poor cad guru is going to get much more familiar with his teammates parts than he was expecting.

Second, a Y plane cross section is fantastic for evaluating whether custom parts properly contact the pins of Lego chassis.

Expanding on this, for our third lesson, editing parts in assembly while in a cross section view is the fastest way to make adjustments to a part to ensure the fit to the Lego chassis.

Lastly, we learned to be able to evaluate the ejection-modability of a custom block during the design process, allowing us to be intentional about creating parts that are easy to injection mold.
