You will make your own pop art piece in the style of the artist you select.

In your sketchbook, sketch images from different works by the artist chosen.

Make notes of colors and subject matter used by the artist.

Fill 2 sketchbook pages with research, drawings & notes about the artist.

Mixing a Color Wheel

  • In this assignment you will make a five-ring color wheel with twelve 30-degree sections.
  • The middle ring is for pure hues: primary colors, secondary colors, and tertiary colors.
  • The ring to the outside of the hues is for shades - hues plus black.
    • Each shade should be the same value.
  • The ring to the inside of the hues is for tints - hues plus white.
    • Each tint should be the same value.
  • The inner and outer rings are for tones. Tones - hue plus its complement.
    • The outer ring is for darker tones (2:1 hue to complement ratio).
    • The inner ring is for lighter tones. (Take the outer ring tone and add white to it in a 1:1 color-to-white ratio).

  • Once you have completed your color wheel you will reflect and identify any areas that could use improvement
    • Use the appropriate terminology to describe what needs to be changed.
  • Art 2 CP students may work with 1 partner to complete 1 color wheel together
  • Art 2 Honors students must complete their own color wheel but they may work with a group

We will make two different values of tones on your 5 ring color wheel.

The darker tone will be with the complement and the lighter tone with be with the completement plus white.

What Happens if you Mix Complementary Colors?

You will get brown.

*If you add the complement to a color it will give you a darker value of that color.

Orange + Blue = Brown

Red + Green = Brown

Yellow + Purple = Brown
