Leader: Let us give you thanks to our LORD with
our whole hearts and sing God our praise.
People: We give thanks to God's name for the
Lord’s steadfast love and faithfulness.
Leader: When we call out to God, they answer us.
People: Though we may walk in the midst of trouble,
God preserves us against the wrath of our enemies.
Leader: The LORD will fulfill their purpose for us;
People: O LORD, your steadfast love, endures forever.

1 So, brothers and sisters, because of God’s mercies,
I encourage you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice that is holy and pleasing to God. This is your appropriate priestly service. 2 Don’t be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you can figure out what God’s will is—
what is good and pleasing and mature.

Prayer
Confession
of
God of abundant love and grace,
You are a God who remembers and meets us here,
yet we are a forgetful people.
We encounter your word that calls us to meditate on it and to be transformed by it.
Yet we continue to delight in our own ways.
Rather than sit in the company of merrymakers,
we sit among those making hateful comments
and we choose to remain silent.
Fill us with your love,
the courage to call out hatred,
bigotry, racism, sexism, and misogyny for what it is…
that which divides your beloved children.
LORD, you tell us that if we turn back to you,
that you will take us back and you shall stand with us,
that you will have us utter what is precious
and not what is worthless,
your words will pour forth from our mouths.
May we be a people
the powers of the world cannot prevail over,
for we are saved and delivered by you.
Forgive us Lord for believing in
our own strength, wisdom, and power.
May we turn from the wickedness of the world
and claim our redemption and new life in you.
We pray all of this in the name of the lamb
who was slain and yet raised to new life. Amen.

out a portion of faith to each one of you.

6 We have different gifts that are consistent with God’s grace that has been given to us. If your gift is prophecy, you should prophesy in proportion to your faith.

8 If your gift is encouragement, devote yourself to encouraging. The one giving should do it with no strings attached. The leader should lead with passion.
The one showing mercy should be cheerful.

Instead, associate with people who have no status.
Don’t think that you’re so smart. 17 Don’t pay back anyone for their evil actions with evil actions, but show respect for what everyone else believes is good.

Affirmation
Faith
of
Christ calls us to live for our neighbors.
Jesus broadened the definition of neighbor
to include those ordinarily despised and excluded.
His life in behalf of others
led to persecution and death.
He commanded his disciples to live the same way.
We believe Christ gives us and demands of us
lives that recognize all people in all cultures
as our neighbors on this planet.
Christ teaches us to go beyond legal requirements
in serving and helping our neighbor,
to treat our neighbor's needs as our own,
to care passionately for the other's good,
to share what we have.
It is part of our discipline
to live in simplicity,
avoiding greed and luxury
that threaten our neighbor's survival.
We are obligated to speak the truth in love,
to listen with patience and openness,
to love our enemies,
to accept the risk and pain
which love involves.
