Purpose/Goal

  • Build a land-based vehicle that detects and avoids objects
    • Use an ultrasonic sensor to detect objects
    • Use a positional rotation servo to swivel ultrasonic sensor
    • Use 2 continuous rotation servos to move vehicle
    • Use MIT AppInventor and Bluetooth to create a controller for manual use

Challenges

  • Setting up Bluetooth connection between Arduino and AppInventor
  • Coding the ultrasonic sensor
  • Wiring (Short-circuit)

Applications

  • Can be scaled up to be implemented in full sized vehicles in order to prevent car crashes
  • Autonomous mode can be implemented alongside GPS systems to create a vehicle which can plot and navigate along a GPS route

  • Improve the autonomous feature
  • Add additional ultrasonic sensors on the sides and rear of the car
