• Grew up near Hancock
• Graduated from Hancock
• Taught 2^nd grade in Osceola, Wisconsin 12 years
• This will be my 8th year teaching 4^th grade
• 20^th year of teaching

Reading/Language Arts

​

• Reading – We use Wonders for reading. We will be using aspects of The Daily 5 that include Read to Self, Read to Somebody, and Work on Writing.

​

• Spelling/Language – These subjects are integrated with our reading series. The words and concepts are taken from each weekly story.

Accelerated Reader

• We feel that accelerated reader is a strong assessment tool for comprehension. The students will be using accelerated reader and set goals each quarter. The following grading scale may be modified depending on student goal. Each student will be graded based on the following scale.

• 8 points or more – A
• 7 points – B

*This will be 20% of their reading grade.

Each quarter we will be increasing the goal.

Math

• We are implementing a new math series called Bridges. We will be learning about many topics. The series is also a spiral review so students will continue working on learned skills. **More than likely math homework.

Other Curriculum

• Science - Our Science book is from Scott Foresman. The units we cover align with the MN standards and include Earth Science, Physical Science including Electricity and Magnetism, Life Science, Inventions, and the Environment.
• Rocks & Minerals, Electricity & Magnetism, Matter & Solutions, Human Body, and Water Cycle
• Social Studies – We mainly cover the regions of the United States. We will be working on learning the states and capitals of each region.
• Projects – We will be sending out a Flat Stanley to help us learn about areas of the United States.
• Current Events – Share a current event with the class that answers who, what, where, why and when. 1 to 2 times per month (template).

General Information

• Absences – Please notify the school if your child will be absent. If you would like work sent home with a sibling please let me know as well.
• Snack – We will have a short snack time. Not sure of exact time yet. Students may bring a snack for that time. I strongly encourage a “healthy” snack. It is a short time frame and should be something that can be finished in a short time.
• Book orders – Book orders will be sent home monthly. This is totally optional. You may go online to order or send a check with your order payable to Scholastic.

General Information continued

• Library – 1 day a week. Monday at 2:00-2:30. Students will be encouraged to check out books to help them with AR points. Students should be able to check out 1 to 2 books at a time.
• All About Me Week – Around the student’s birthday or half birthday, students will fill out an information sheet and may bring in pictures to share with the class. *I will send the information sheets home with students.
