If your teacher has already invited you, click the Join button.
Your teacher’s name will be where this grey box is.

If the teacher gave you a class code, click the + sign to join a class.
Type in the class code given to you by your teacher and click Join.
The letters in the class code will always be lower case letters.

Work due soon will be listed on the front of your class.
This is the “Pancake” menu. You can access all your classes and other links inside this menu.
You can access the Pancakes from any page in Classroom.

Click to jump to your Class folder in Google Drive.
Do NOT delete that folder in Drive or move files out of it!

Click the class name to go back to the stream.

You may see a Google Meet link below the title of your class.
Do not go into the Google Meet unless you know your teacher has asked you to.
Sometimes there will be things to click on and view in announcements.

Your teacher may allow students to reply to posts.
Everyone can see these comments.
Make sure to be respectful and responsible when you make class comments.
Your teacher can stop you from commenting if necessary.
Press the triangle to post your comment.

Click the Clipboard icon to see all your work for this class.

Click the Meet icon to join a Google Meet.
Click the Calendar icon to open your Google Calendar in another tab.

Click the Folder icon to open your class folder in Google Drive.
Do NOT delete that folder in Drive or move files out of it!

This is the Assignment icon.
Icons are blue until you turn them in.
This is the Question icon.
Icons are Grey after you turn them in.
This is the Material icon.
This icon will be grey because there is no work to do with a Material.
Topics

Teachers might post your work under topics.
Click a topic on the left to only see the work under that topic.
Assignments

Click one time on an assignment to see a preview of it.
The due date sits at the top.
It will state here if your work is Assigned or Missing.
Click the rubric icon preview how your assignment will be assessed.
Sometimes, your teacher will post a video for you to watch or a sound file to listen to.
Click the link to view the assignment in more detail.

Materials you can only view will be underneath the assignment instructions.
Inside An Assignment
Assignment instructions sit under the blue line.
Find Individual assignments under Your work. They will always be titled with your name.
Make sure you do not click the x or you will delete it!

What the assignment is being marked out of sits at the top.
If you don’t have any individual attachments, the button will ask you to “Mark as done” once you’ve finished.

If there are documents for you to work on in the assignment, the button will ask you to “Turn in” when you are finished.
If you need to add a file to your assignment, you can click Add or create.
Look for a file in your Drive, link to a URL, or upload a file from your hard drive.

If your teacher has not made you an individual file to work in or if you want to create another file, click on Docs or Slides (etc.) from this menu.
A file will be created. It will automatically be titled with your name and the name of the assignment. It opens in a new tab so you can work on it.
You DO NOT need to share this with your teacher. The teacher has access to it through Classroom.
Leave a class comment here that everyone can see.
Send your teacher a private comment/question that only you and your teacher can read.

If your work has been assessed, the rubric will have a blue box indicating your level.
Short Answer Questions
You cannot answer a Short Answer question from the Classwork page.
You can only read the extra description.

Inside A Short Answer Question
Type your short answer in the box on the line.
Then click Turn in.

Sometimes your teacher will let you edit your answer.
Sometimes your teacher will let you reply to the answers of your classmates.
Multiple Choice Questions
You can answer a Multiple Choice question right from the Classwork page.
Just pick an option and then click Turn in.

Sometimes your teacher will let you see what the other kids in the class answered.
After you answer the multiple choice question, sometimes your teacher will let you see what other kids in your class selected on the Classwork page too.

Quiz Assignments
You can open a Quiz Assignment (it’s just a Google Form) right from the Classwork page. When you submit, it automatically turns it in for you.

Click the link to view the Quiz Assignment in more detail.
Click on the Quiz to answer the questions.

When you submit the quiz, it will automatically turn in the assignment for you.
Sometimes your teacher will let you see your score right after you press submit on the quiz.
Getting The Quiz Results
If your teacher returns your score, you will also be able to see it in Google Classroom.

Click on it to access your results.
You will get an email when your teacher returns your quiz.

Click View to see your answers and feedback.
Correct answers are green. Incorrect answers are red.
If you get the answer wrong, your teacher may show you the right answer right above the feedback box.

The overall score sits in purple at the top.
If it is 0/0 it means the quiz was unmarked.
Materials

Click one time on a Material to see a preview of it.
You can access the Material from this preview.
Click View material to see the Material in more detail.
Inside a Material
Materials are just information.
Usually they will not require you to do any work.
There is no option to send your teacher a private message or turn in work from a Material.
**NOTE: Sometimes teachers may give you something to do (like an assignment) in a material. If this happens, you will need to connect to them to let them know you cannot hand anything in through a Material. Look for another assignment to send them a private comment.

You can see if you are still working on it (Assigned), finished (Turned in), or your grade

Click on Missing to see only the work you still need to complete.

You’ll be able to access your attached work and see private comments between you and your teacher.

Once again, you can also jump to the Student Work View page right from the Classroom Dashboard by clicking on the clipboard icon.
Calendars
Click the Calendar icon to open your Google Calendar in another tab.

Click on an assignment in any Calendar view and it will open in Classroom in a new tab.

See when assignments are due. Click on the box to open the assignment.

Show your work from all your classes or just pick one.
See when it is due.
Click the title of the assignment to jump right to it.

Click the Pancake Menu to open the Notifications Settings.

Decide which notifications you want and which you do not.
Slide the dial to the left to turn notifications off.

Turn notifications off for some classes but leave them on for others.
Change your notifications whenever you want.

Tip!
If you are sharing devices among multiple users, you may need to sign out of one account before signing in to another.
Google Classrooms can only be accessed with cps.edu accounts.
