Language Arts

  • We use McGraw-Hill Wonders curriculum
  • 170 minutes per day
  • Letter ID in random order (beginning of the year)
  • Letter Sounds in random order (beginning of the year)

  • High Frequency Words
  • Blending short/long vowel words

Math

  • Math Expressions Curriculum.

  • Students will participate in daily math routines to become more fluid in number sense.

  • We use manipulatives to help students have hands on experience.

  • During class we will also be doing practice worksheets as a group

  • Students will bring home homework. Please set up a daily homework routine with your child and encourage them to try to do their work on their own.

  • We do not want homework to be frustrating. Please do not let it exceed 30 minutes. If your child becomes frustrated, stop, and write a note to your teacher letting them know.

Writing

  • We begin the year by telling oral stories from our lives.

Then we transition to telling our stories through our pictures. Finally we begin to tell our stories by writing sentences.

  • Your child will begin to use invented spelling. Invented spelling is writing the sounds he/she hears in unknown words. Please encourage your child to write the sounds he/she hears in words.

  • By the end of the year, kindergartners are expected to write a three part story with a beginning, middle, and end.

Second Steps

Lincoln Public Schools has adopted this curriculum district-wide

*It focuses on teaching appropriate social behaviors to assist with building strong relationships.

*Taught once a week, with review several times a week.

*Fun and interactive.

*Roper has also adopted the Second Step Bullying Curriculum – Taught 4 times a year

If you enjoy shopping for school supplies, and would like to make a donation to your child’s classroom, the list below provides suggestions. Items donated will be shared with all students!

- Large Pink Erasers -Kleenex

- Markers/Colored Pencils/Slick Stix -Hand sanitizer unscented Purell* or Germ-X*

- Dry erase markers: Any size/color Expo* -Glue sticks (BIG ones preferred)

*Brand Names: We have requested brand names for a few select items. I understand that they are slightly more expensive. However, the quality of the name brand on these items is far better, and will last the entire year, rather than needing to be replaced. Thank you for your understanding!
