Watercolor
Materials needed
The next slides are different techniques. Use one or try them all and see what you can make!
What to do if you dont have watercolors at home
Use food coloring in water
Add water to tempera paint. (You will only need a little paint)
Have markers that don’t color well soak them is water to make watercolor paint
Make your own-Mix baking soda and vinegar together in a spouted container i.e. 2 cup measuring cup. Add corn syrup and cornstarch, and mix until well dissolved. Your mixture will thicken if you stop stirring so keep it moving as you pour. Add a dab of icing gel or 6 drops of liquid food colour to each compartment of paint.
Wet/Dry
These are all painting techniques. The first word describes your brush the second describes your paper.
The wet on wet method. Your paper is wet with a thin layer of water and your brush is wet with water and paint.
Wet on dry- wet brush dry paper
Dry on dry- dry paper and dry brush your paint should be just slightly wet enough to get some on your brush
Dry on wet- dry brush like above and wet paper
Tape
This technique uses masking tape or painters tape to mark off areas that you do not want paint. Let the paper dry before removing the tape.
This can also work with stencils.
Gradient
These are gradients.
They are made by gradually adding
more of the same color to your paper
as you add more the darker the color gets.
Salt
Adding salt when paint is wet gives a unique
look. Add salt when wet then wipe off
Excess when it is dry.
Rubbing Alcohol
When paint is still wet drip some rubbing alcohol on the paper to give a unique spotted look.
Resist
Using crayon or oil pastel. Draw what you want first with these. Then when you paint the watercolor will not adhere to these areas leaving your drawing to show through. The example shows the flowers were drawn with crayon.
