WHAT EVEN IS A PEDESTRIAN SAFETY ART CONTEST?

Vision Zero is hosting an art contest about pedestrian safety in order raise awareness around good pedestrian safety habits. All MCPS elementary schoolers are encouraged to submit their own artwork about pedestrian safety into this contest. The winning artwork should reflect what a safe road is supposed to look like for pedestrians and/or what pedestrians should do to keep the roads safe.

SO, WHAT’S A PEDESTRIAN? WHY IS PEDESTRIAN SAFETY IMPORTANT?

A pedestrian is defined as anyone who is walking (on a road especially). You are a pedestrian, your teacher is a pedestrian, everyone is a pedestrian.

As pedestrians, we are responsible for doing our part to keep roads safe. We have to make sure that we are waiting for cars to pass by before we are crossing the road, that we are using crosswalks, that we are waiting for the light on crosswalks to turn green before crossing, and so on. Practicing good pedestrian safety habits can save your life and create a positive impact within your community!

Thus, Vision Zero is inviting you to learn more about pedestrian safety by participating in this art contest!
