WELCOME
TEACHER AS AN AGENT OF CHANGE AND NATION BUILDERS
The quality of its citizens depends not exclusively but in critical measures upon the quality of their education. The quality of their education depends, more than on other single factor, upon the quality of their teachers. So Indian Education Commission (1964-66) rightly remarked “The destiny of India is being shaped in her classroom”. Similarly Chhattopadhyaya Commission, 1985 says “No country can go beyond the level of her teachers”.
TEACHER AS A SOCIAL TRANSFORMER
A teacher plays various roles in changing the society( social reforms). Firstly, a teacher as a surrogate parent in the school context builds an attribute of”love and unity” in the society which is crucial. Other members of the society can learn how to take other people’s children as their own.
Secondly, a teacher is like a role model. Students/pupils learn from him/her.Students can acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes from the teacher especially good morals and hard work which they can use to build the society and make changes where errors had been made.
Third, In the socialization process in schools, learners interact with each other despite their social status, ethnicity or culture.Teachers teach them cultures of different communities that they can appreciate.Hence in social reformation, all cultures are included (enculturation) that all individuals are not left out.
Generally, in the six social institutions;family,Religion, politics, health, economics and education can help in relating the social changes globally focusing on the teachers roles in these institutions.
