As we reflect on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., it is important to remember that his work is not just part of history, but a call to action for all of us today. At our school, we continue to embrace Dr. King’s values of equality, kindness, and justice in everything we do. Let’s work together as a community to build a world where all people are treated with respect and dignity, just as Dr. King dreamed.

Let’s carry his vision forward by spreading love, practicing empathy, and standing up for what is right. Every small act of kindness and fairness makes a difference. Together, we can continue to make our school and our world a better place.

Love, Principal Gruber

When young children draw & write in math…

Support Math Instruction

Grade K - Addition & Subtraction

Grade 1 - Beginning Place Value

iReady math testing will take place between January 6-24 for all students in K-2. Reports will be sent home when each class completes the test. Please reach out to Mrs. Addie if you have any questions!

  • Visualizing complex concepts:Drawing helps children visualize abstract mathematical concepts, like geometric shapes, fractions, or spatial relationships, making them easier to comprehend.
  • Communication of thought process:When drawing to solve a problem, children can visually represent their reasoning and thought process, which can be helpful for teachers to assess their understanding and identify areas needing support.
  • Improved problem-solving skills:Studies have shown that students who draw diagrams or illustrations while solving math problems tend to perform better than those who only rely on written calculations.
  • Engagement and motivation:Incorporating drawing into math activities can enhance student engagement and motivation, making learning more enjoyable.
  • Early math development:Drawing can be a valuable tool in early childhood math education, helping children develop foundational concepts like number sense, patterns, and spatial awareness.

Please encourage your child to write and draw numbers and math pictures as often as possible!
