B A S I C S H O P R U L E S

  • Wear goggles when using power tools
  • Make sure hair is always pulled back
  • Do not wear loose clothing that could get caught
  • Know where the fire extinguisher and First Aid Kit is located
  • Keep work area clean
  • Wear closed toe shoes
  • Always work with a partner
  • Never use a tool without teacher permission
  • Make sure everything is properly ventilated when using chemicals
  • Absolutely NO HORSEPLAY allowed!

S T A P L E G U N S

  • Make sure the staple gun is facing the correct way before you staple
  • Never aim a staple gun at another person
  • Make sure your hand and all other body parts are clear from the area you are stapling--you can accidentally staple through the item!

H A M M E R & N A I L S

  • Make sure fingers are clear before hammering
  • Never pretend to use the hammer as a weapon or joking towards another student
  • Make sure you are using the appropriate amount of force so you don’t inadvertently break something
  • If a nail and hammer is not working, do not continue to beat harder--speak to the instructor and problem solve!

D R I L L S

  • Make sure your sleeves are pulled up so they do not get into the way of the drill
  • Do not aim a drill at another person
  • Make sure all body parts are clear before drilling
  • Never touch a screw immediately after using a drill on--it may be hot!
  • Make sure you are using the right size screw so you don’t drill through too far and have a sharp end sticking out

  • Make sure the area is clear before operating the saw
  • Always wear goggles when using the saw
  • Work slowly and pay attention to where your fingers are in relation to the blade
  • It is CRITICAL that you never use the saw without teacher permission and presence!
  • Always turn off the saw and take safety precautions such as lowering the cover
