Directory: District Policy Change

Beaverton School District has changed its policies about sharing families’ information at the school level.

Beginning in the 2025-26 school year, the only information that will be released to the community will be class lists, without any contact information.

If the community would like to continue to have a school-wide directory, each family will now need to manually opt-in each year.

The form is on the BSCO website and will be pushed out to the community at the start of the school year, beginning at the Playground Playdates. Watch for ParentSquare notifications inviting you to fill out your information. Participation is completely optional.

The school will send families an Enrollment Verification Request at the start of the school year. These two things do not overlap. No information provided to the school will be shared with BSCO to create the directory.

Garden Renovation Transparency

This year the community approved up to $40k to be used to renovate the garden space for students.

To date $14,160 has been spent to haul away the old boxes and rotting picnic table, remove weeds and blackberry vines, lay landscaping cloth, surface with gravel for better drainage, and new raised beds purchased.

Diana Kincaid was able to secure grants and donations to help offset costs, such as dirt donation from Farmington Garden, gift cards to various garden centers, and funds from local agencies.

Pantry Gift Card Program Renewal

In the fall, the community approved $15,000 to be used to feed families at Bonny Slope.

Jennifer Cade, the school social worker, has shared what a positive impact this has had on students and families in our community.

  • Students have more dignity since the gift cards are discrete
  • The burden on children to carry home heavy backpacks has been removed
  • Families report increased ability to meet their families food needs; to account for dietary needs, food preferences, and cultural foodways

The families served by this program have been very vocal in their gratitude!

The BSCO budget includes a line item to include this program in the 2025-26 school year, with an increase to account for the raising cost of food. The actual cost of the program will vary based on enrollment and families in need.

Continuing this program will mean that committee leads for the Pantry will not be needed.

Track Renovation Project - Update

  • The project has been moved up to 2026/27, from 2029
  • Current bid suggests $197,000 for the work
    • BSCO has set aside $50,000 for the work (see the proposed budget later in the meeting) and BSD is contributing $150k from modernization funds
    • A project manager for the construction company will come out to review the site in the Spring of 2026
    • There will be an initial cost of $7000 to the construction company at the start of the project to test certain assumptions about the bid from the district’s site assessment.

Depending on the information gleaned from the Project Manager, the cost could increase to $317,000 with a responsibility of $167,000 for the BSE Community to raise.

Continued. . .

There are no additional funds that can be drawn from the district to make up the shortfall. With a construction timeline set for 2026-27, that does not leave a lot of time to close a potential fundraising gap and could mean impacting programs and events at the school.

The three cost scenarios are below and we will dive deeper into fundraising scenario efforts in the fall when incoming kinder families have an opportunity to weigh in.

  • $197,000 (original quote: $150k from the district, $47k from BSCO which we have; no overages)
  • $250,000 (potential midway cost that could include some additional expenses, BSCO to pay $100k; would need to fundraise $53k)
  • $317,000 (highest quoted expense for the project, BSCO would pay $167k; would need to fundraise $117k)
