  • April 8th: Mandatory Parent Meeting for new squad at 5:30 p.m in Coach B’s room (508). $35 cash for camp lunch due. Other fees discussed.
  • April 8th: $400 Cheer Fee Due: this will cover all personal cheer items.

  • Cheerleaders must meet UIL academic requirements for eligibility for each grading period.
  • Cheerleader attendance must meet state criteria.
  • Cheerleader must fulfill all cheerleading obligations throughout the school year. (Practices, games, pep-rallies, etc.)
  • Please review the Cheerleading Constitution and The Fowler Addendum (online) for more specific behavior and academic expectations

  • Required: FMS Cheer Camp Week of July 18th, 19th, 20th (Thurs., Fri., and Sat.) (Emerson High School)

Cheer camp is where the cheerleaders learn more cheers, chants and dances. They will be trained by their FMS Cheer Coaches and NCA Cheerleaders.

  • Failure to attend camp or partial absences from camp may result in removal from squad

  • Excused absences are: personal illness, severe illness within the immediate family, death of relative or close friend, approved school function in advance. Any other conflict will be considered unexcused.
  • Proper documentation for all absences needs to be given to the Cheer Coaches as outlined in the Cheerleading Constitution and Fowler Addendum.
  • Three unexcused absences from cheer activities may result in removal from the squad.

Cheerleader leadership abilities and attitudes are always on display.

Cheerleaders are constantly representing their school, whether they are in uniform or not.

Cheerleader behavior at school, outside of school, and on the internet will be held to the highest standard.

Once selected as a squad member, all behavior and academic requirements will be upheld.

The candidate will have access to the online video of the dance, chant, and cheer on March 28th.

Candidates should be familiar and knowledgeable with the routines by April 2nd for Cheer Clinic

Candidates should also practice on jumps, spiriting, and *tumbling passes. YouTube is a good resource.

*Tumbling should only be done by those who have been trained in gymnastics.

Cheer Clinic will be held April 2nd - 4th after school in the gym.

Pre-tryout clinic will include exact tryout procedures in detail, demonstration of tryout material, and order of tryouts.

Please dress comfortably (athletic wear) and have your hair in a ponytail and/or out of your face.

Tryouts will be on Friday, April 5th in the Fowler Competition Gym

Tryout time will begin at 4:00pm. BE ON TIME!

On the tryout day, candidates will perform in a solid white t-shirt and solid black shorts. Hair should be up in a ponytail and/or out of your face. No names, pictures, or words on shorts or shirts will be allowed.

Candidates will perform the dance, cheer, chant, jump series, and a tumbling pass.

No spectators are allowed

  • Cheerleading squad will be selected by performing before a panel of three NCA judges.
  • There will be no student body vote.
  • Candidates will be scored on:
    • Tumbling 10 points
    • Jumps 15 points
    • Dance 20 points
    • Chant 25 points
    • Cheer 30 points
  • The top 12 scores will be asked to join the squad. The next highest will be used as an alternate if needed.

New squads will be announced on April 5th on the Fowler Cheer Website.

  • 24 Members total
  • 12 7th graders on the 7th grade squad
  • 12 8th graders on the 8th grade squad
  • There will be no “carry-over” cheerleaders from one school year to the next. Former, as well as new candidates for cheerleader, must try out each year.

Uniforms will be loaned out by the school.

Shell top, skirt, jacket, and megaphone

Uniforms are property of the district and will be returned to the school in good condition and used again the following year.

Damaged uniforms will have to be replaced at the cheerleaders expense.

Replacement costs can be expensive.

Approximate costs are:

Shell top = $125, Skirt = $100, Jacket = $80, and megaphone = $125

Additional clothing and supplies will cost $435 that will be due April 8th by those who make the squad. These belong to the cheerleader. This pays for:

$400 towards bows, poms, leggings, bag, three practice outfits (shirt and shorts), bloomers, etc

$35 will be asked for lunch money for camp (CASH)

*Additional clothing and supplies will be purchased at an added expense

**Cost of student Physical Exam will be required.

Additional activities such as Big Sis/Lil Sis, holiday parties, football gifts, etc.. are optional so the expense would be whatever deemed appropriate by the individual.

All performances are to be taken seriously and are mandatory.

Cheerleaders will be tested prior to performances to ensure they know the required cheers and chants. If they do not meet the requirements, it could result in being benched until they can prove they have mastered the material.

Cheerleaders will be responsible for practicing cheers, chants, dances, etc. during practice times, as well as their own time.

Cheerleaders will participate in two Pep Rallies during the school year (possibly more)

Pep Rallies will be held during the school day

If a cheerleader misses the practice prior to the Pep Rally (excused or unexcused) they will not be allowed to take part in the Pep Rally

  • We will practice DURING FLIGHT TIME on Thursday and Friday
    • We will host a parent meeting when we approach Football Season
    • More or less practice time may be scheduled
  • One evening each week from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm for the football games (There are two teams per grade therefore two games a night) This will depend on how many teams are playing. ** This may be subject to change depending on team numbers.
    • Games may end earlier or later than 9 pm.
  • Cheerleaders will be picked up promptly at the end of all performances.
  • 3rd quarter of both games is given to the girls as a break. They may work on homework at this time if they choose.
  • Games are held at FISD high school or district facilities.
  • For those interested in being on the FMS volleyball team
    • You will need to leave after school volleyball practice early on game day to make it to the football games on time. This is worked out with the volleyball coaches.

  • All cheerleaders are required to attend home games chosen at the Coaches discretion.
  • Games are on random days. Practice will also be before the game begins.
  • Games start at 5:30 pm. Squads will need to come back to campus by 5:10 pm for practice. Again, Cheerleaders will be picked up promptly at the end of all performances.
  • For those interested in being on the FMS basketball team
    • Girls and boys play on the same night and we will cheer for whichever team is home
    • If the boys are playing a home game, girls on the basketball team will not be able to cheer (because they will be on another campus)
    • If the girls are playing a home game, girls on the basketball team will be able to cheer after their game is played
    • Cheerleaders on the “A” team will be unable to cheer for the entire season due to UIL regulations: students cannot participate in more than one event per day.

Parents are responsible for ensuring that their cheerleader is dropped off and picked up on time to all events, practices and performances. Late drop off or pick up results in infractions and could result in removal from the squad.

Cheerleaders and Parents are responsible for communicating absences/tardies prior to events.

Parents must agree to and be fully aware of all financial responsibilities of being a cheerleader and meet all financial obligations throughout the year.

Attendance at performances is not required but highly encouraged.

Parent volunteers are needed to deliver lunches, snacks and drinks to Cheer Camp.

Parents should be willing to help with volunteering for fundraiser activities (EPI Sales only) (During Flight Camp in August).

Parent meetings are scheduled periodically and parents are highly encouraged to attend.

Parent communication will be in the form of emails, Remind App, and/or the GroupMe App

Deadlines are upheld and are crucial to be considered in the try-out process.
