The Eight Compass Points

The basic four

• You have learned that the compass is a tool that tells us in which direction we are going to, or which direction we are coming from.
• You have learned that there were four compass point – North(N), South(S), East(E) and West(W).

Using the four compass points to tell directions

• If we wanted to know where somewhere was from a point, then we would use N, S, E, and W.

• Now we know that the star is East of the triangle.

The real compass points

• So, you know the basic compass points, now you need to know all eight of the compass points. They are:
• North (N)
• North-East (NE)
• East (E)
• South-East (SE)
• South (S)
• South-West (SW)
• West (W)
• North-West (NW)

Using the eight compass points to tell directions

• Now we can use the eight compass point to tell where things are that are not just above, below, right or left of the starting point.
