How to Act

Maintain eye contact

  • Sit comfortably, but do not slouch.
  • It is normal to be nervous; even the most seasoned interviewees are often nervous.
  • Most employers make an allowance for a certain amount of nervousness on the part of the applicant, but try to show as little nervousness as possible.
  • It is NOT the time to twist your rings, play with your hair, or pick lint from your clothes.

Relax

  • Everyone wants to associate with pleasant people and stay away from grouches.
  • People who build positive connections during the interview are more likely to be hired.

Be positive

  • Look directly at the interviewer (camera).
  • Answer questions in a professional manner.
  • Shifting your eyes away shows insecurity and a lack of self-confidence.

During an Interview

Act as though you want and deserve the internship and keep any desperation to yourself.

Speak Clearly

Show your confidence by smiling and looking at the interviewer (camera).

Introduce Yourself

An interviewer expects applicants to speak well and will take note of a person who uses poor grammar. While almost everyone uses slang occasionally, be sure to use professional language.

Use good grammar and pronunciation

How to Dress

Always present a professional image by dressing professionally. DO NOT dress with sweatpants, shirts with logos, etc

If you dress casually with no formal dressing, your interviewer will think of you as…

  • Unwilling to show respect
  • Will not be taken seriously
  • Unable to take time to attend details
