NGSS Alignment

ESS3.C: Human Impacts on Earth Systems

  • Students will explore both negative and positive human impacts on ecosystems including tide pools, the redwood and pygmy forests, sand dunes, and coastal headlands.

ESS2.A: Earth Materials and Systems

  • Students will examine how the ocean supports a variety of ecosystems and organisms, shapes landforms, and influences climate.

LS1.C: Organization for Matter and Energy Flow in Organisms

  • Students will explore how plants in a variety of ecosystems acquire their material for growth from air and water.

LS2.A Interdependent Relationships in Ecosystems

  • Students will study how healthy ecosystems involve multiple species of different types that create a relatively stable web of life.

LS2.B: Cycle of Matter and Energy Transfer in Ecosystems

  • Students will examine how matter cycles between the air, soil, and among organisms as they live and die.

NGSS Alignment

ESS2.B: Plate Tectonics and Large-Scale System Interactions

  • Students will examine how Earth’s plates have collided over time on the ecological staircase hike.

ESS3.C: Human Impacts on Earth Systems

  • Students will explore both negative and positive human impacts on ecosystems including tide pools, the redwood and pygmy forests, sand dunes, and coastal headlands.

LS1.C: Organization for Matter and Energy Flow in Organisms

  • Students will examine how matter cycles between the air, soil, and among organisms as they live and die.

LS2.C: Ecosystem Dynamics, Functioning, and Resilience

  • Students will explore how disruptions to ecosystem components can shift all populations, and how an ecosystem’s biodiversity measures its health.

LS4.C: Adaptation

  • Students will study how adaptations cause traits in a population to change.

  • Sleep in an assigned cabin with students.
  • Help monitor recreation and free time (before and after meals).
  • Help monitor shower time quickly and efficiently.
  • Sit with students at meals and help keep noise level down.
  • Help serve during meals.
