Plan to wear a badge starting in January

  • Starting in January 2025, wear whichever badge you have in Ames Lab buildings.
    • Wear: PIV Badge, Ames Lab Badge, or ISUCard
    • Don’t wear badges in ISU buildings or in public
  • What you can do now: Stop by the Badging Office in 105 TASF to pick up a lanyard, clip, or armband if you don’t have one.
  • Visitors need to wear badges too.

What kind of badge will I get?

PIV Badge

  • Most Ames Lab employees, including
    • Permanent employees
    • Joint employees
    • Foreign nationals who have lived in the U.S. for at least 3 years
    • Postdocs

Ames Lab Badge

  • Employees who aren’t eligible for PIV Badges, including
    • Temporary employees
    • Contributors
    • Foreign nationals who have lived in the U.S. for less than 3 years
    • Graduate students
    • Undergraduate students

Employees will get either a PIV Badge or an Ames Lab Badge depending on their role and how long they will be at the Lab.

What you need to do now

  • Everyone: Get a lanyard, clip, or armband from 105 TASF.

  • If you’re eligible for a PIV Badge: Nothing! The Badging Office will notify you when it’s your turn to start the process to get your new badge.
  • If you’re not eligible for a PIV Badge: Come get your Ames Lab Badge! Stop by 105 TASF during business hours or email us at badgingoffice@ameslab.gov to make an appointment.

Wearing badges while working

  • It’s okay to remove your badge in a place it cannot be safely worn and put it back on when you exit that area.
  • If you have a safety concern, talk to us – we’ll work with you on a solution. We’ve already met with several groups.
