WHAT IS A REPORT?

A report is a piece of writing addressing a specific person or organisation/authority/governmental body, etc.

It usually consists of a description of something as well as suggestions and recommendations for future actions.

REPORT STRUCTURE

  • Introduction/ Purpose: the purpose of the report and what it contains

  • Main body: 2-3 paragraphs, each with a unique heading. Each paragraph deals with a specific suggestion/detail and the relevant examples or justifications.

  • Conclusion: summary/ general recommendation/ personal opinion

  • Use a clear and simple layout with headings for each section
  • Write in a formal and impersonal style
  • Say how you collected the information
  • Use bullet points and numbering
  • Express recommendations and opinion only in the conclusion
