10 Prompts to use as class starters. There isn’t a wrong answer, but here are some things to think about for each question:

  1. How valuable are the “extras” in the Staycation package? Is it worth it?
  2. Definitely cheaper gas. How much would you save if you were filling a normal gas tank in a car? What about a larger gas tank for a truck? How much extra time would you be giving up? Is it worth it?
  3. Would anyone pick the middle option? Does this show linear growth?
  4. The yearly cost is a better deal. But is that always the best choice?
  5. Is one type of toilet paper better? Can we calculate a unit rate? Is there a reason why someone might not choose the cheaper unit rate?
  6. How important is the “60% off”? It is still more expensive, so is it really the better deal? What if the second option was listed at $4000, but save 75% which still works out to $1000. Would that change your mind? Good opportunity to discuss how marketing options can convince us to purchase things.
  7. Two similar trucks with real prices (as of Oct. 25, 2021). Opportunity to discuss advantages of buying new vs used. Notice the difference in the interest rates. How much will actually be spent to buy each vehicle?
  8. The $5000 investment catches up to the $10000 investment after about 18 years.
  9. Chance to highlight the cost of bank accounts and balancing cost vs needs.
  10. Compare cash back vs Scene reward points. More important to point out the interest rate on credit cards.
