Keynote Speaker
Michael Lovaglio
Michael Lovaglio is a senior member of the National Honor Society at MAST@FIU. Michael is devoted to community service as evidenced by his earning 94 community service hours last year, in NHS alone - the most of any of the Senior class members.
Notably, Michael was the student leader of the Million Orchid Project, then a new extended service project that sought to reintroduce endangered native orchids back into the marine hammock ecosystem on the outskirts of the MAST@FIU and FIU Biscayne Bay Campuses.
Michael has also been essential in the establishment and success of MAST@FIU Debate team. He has guided fellow debate members through many competitions and he and another team member qualified for the national competition in Kentucky last year.
Michael is graduating this year and hopes to attend the University of Pennsylvania, majoring in Philosophy.
He is also an accomplished part time DJ.

Principal’s Address
Dr. Matthew Welker
In his 39-year career as an educator in Miami, Welker has worked as a science teacher, department chair, lead teacher, assistant principal and principal. Dr. Welker is currently the principal at the Marine Academy of Science and Technology (MAST) at Florida International University (FIU) which is recognized as the first and only blended high school university educational magnet school in Miami.
Dr. Welker is a acknowledged leader and innovator in education. In 1999, he was recognized as the Feeder Pattern Assistant Principal of the Year and the Dade Association for Theater Education Administrator of the Year. He was recognized as the district Assistant Principal of the Year and Region II Assistant Principal of the Year in 2001 and 2003. In 2003, Welker was recognized as the Florida Assistant Principal of the Year and also received Outstanding Alumni Recognition by the College of Education at Florida International University.

What to bring:
Closed-toed shoes, water bottle/ sports drink, sunscreen, bug spray, gloves, trashbags, and snacks.
Volunteers that work the full time will receive community service hours and service event credit.

A Google Form will be sent out to collect ideas on how to best use the surplus balance.
Suggestions:
