Why do we have Flex?

To afford you time to address your academic, personal, social and mental health needs.

  • Frees up time in the mornings, at lunch, and in the evenings - you can complete homework during this time or access help

  • Opens up time for volunteering and career opportunities
  • Allows you extra time to participate in activities you enjoy
  • Affords you time to access additional supports
  • Fosters spirit and community

How do I use my Flex-time wisely?

  • Ask teachers/peers or your Learning Assistance Team for help and/or attend Help Sessions

  • Work on homework, upcoming assignments, projects, necessary review and test preparation

  • Where? A classroom, a hallway table, the RSC, the Learning Commons, the cafeteria, a picnic table outside, etc.

  • Access the Learning Commons and read a great book, play a game or have coffee with friends!

  • Spend time planning and prioritizing your day or your week

Participate in an activity or a club, such as:

  • QSA (Queer Straight Alliance) - Friday’s at Flex (2314)
  • E-Sports and D&D Tabletop - In Learning Commons - (See Ms. Gosse in 2600)
  • Wellness Activities - Mindfulness Mondays (Yoga Room)
  • Cheerleading - (See Mrs. Armstrong, 1500)
  • FTC Robotics Team - (3305)
  • LTCHS Book Club - (See Ms. Baggaley in the Learning Commons)
  • Best Buddies Program - (1609)

Listen to announcements, watch for posters/displays and read the monitors!!!

How do I use my Flex-time wisely?

  • personal, academic and career counselling
  • Career Centre (2600)
  • Peer Tutor Program, volunteering, resumes, interview preparation, employment, travel opportunities, life planning & course selection
  • FNMI Room (1801)
  • academic support and cultural celebrations
  • Raider Support Centre (1600)
  • a quiet space to complete missing assignments and use additional time and/or assistive technology for assignments/tests

Power your mind through nutrition & physical activity:

Health First: Sleep, Nutrition & Physical Activity

Nutrition

  • healthy snack
  • water

Physical Activity

  • bike riding - nearby trails
  • walking/running around block or on LTCHS track
  • sports practice in gym(s)
  • dancing/aerobics - anywhere and everywhere
  • climbing stairs - first floor to The Tower
  • muscle-strengthening - Power Station (2400)

Don’t go far - you need to be on time for your period 3 class!

It is your responsibility as a Raider, during LT Flex, to be respectful & empathetic, to work hard & try to achieve your best, and to demonstrate courage & honour!

Be sure you …

  • submit ALL assignments on time

  • communicate with your teachers if you are struggling and access academic Flex sessions if this is the case

  • are respectful in terms of noise level as there are Flex sessions being held in learning spaces

  • throw snack wrappers and food/drink waste in the garbage and recycling bins

  • stay on school premises if you risk the chance of arriving to your period 3 class late

  • adhere to school rules and values

  • use your time wisely

Flex will be inflexible students fail to use Flex wisely or are failing subjects
