World Health Organisation

While technology can support learning, it's essential to balance it with physical activity, social interaction, and time away from screens.

  • Children under 5: No more than 1 hour of recreational screen time per day, with no screen time for children under 2.

  • Children aged 5 to 17: No more than 2 hours of recreational screen time per day. However, for educational use, longer durations may be appropriate, provided there is balance with physical activity and breaks.

  • Our school encourages the use of iPads as an educational tool, usage should be purposeful, brief, and balanced with other forms of learning and physical activity.

iPad usage for learning should be limited to no more than 30-40 minutes per session for primary-aged pupils, followed by a 5–10minute break.

iPads should only be used for educational purposes during school hours. Access to social media is prohibited and access to games or non-educational apps should be restricted.

Students will receive instruction on the importance of digital literacy, including safe online behaviour, respecting others' work, and using technology ethically.

Screen time should be balanced with other activities, including face-to-face discussions, physical education, and outdoor play.

Teachers will have oversight during the school day using the Apple Classroom App. This allows class teachers to see what each student is accessing in real time.
