What have we done?

  • Reviewed the city Portrait Methodology
  • Mapped all indicators which could be applied to the ‘local social’ and ‘local ecological’ measures
  • Identified an initial set of indicators for the local measures
  • Downloaded data for London and all boroughs to provide provocation

City Portrait: Next Steps

  • Establish a ‘world…’ baseline
  • Compare London with other cities - how does it contribute or impact upon the UK as a whole?
  • Consult - use the information to undertake consultation on what the London Doughnut should look like
  • Map – Good practice and great neighbourhood activities
  • Gain political and institutional buy in; potentially look at borough doughnuts?
  • Finalise all of the information into a publishable report
  • Publish and Discuss

Reflections

  • London is not in a bad place but should aspire to be the global leader amongst larger cities

  • Institutions: London’s leaders need to back the doughnut and promote the core principles

​

  • Neighbourhoods: Change from the partnership is likely to be most effective at the local and neighbourhood level – we think there is plenty of good local practice that can be amplified
