  • Waiting 38 years and never got it the pool
  • “Do you want to be healed?”
  • Of course, but am I resigned to never getting better/healed?
  • Do you believe that Jesus wants to heal you?

  • When we are hurt, we protect our hearts
  • When I met Jesus, He was the only one who understood my pain.
  • I wanted to be found, to be known, and most of all to be embraced.

    • We live from our identity as beloved children
    • Virtue and good spiritual fruit
    • Jesus’ love is the medicine/sap that runs through our tree
  • Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil – symbol of our life cut off from God
    • Sin and other obstacles keep us from living a life of grace

Hidden anger: self-righteousness, judgment, bitterness, resentment, depression, suicide, sickness, disease

Expressed anger: verbal abuse, insults, slander, rage, revenge, retaliation, murder, violence, malice, gossip

Wounds

  • Type A – deprivation of love
    • Parents did not cherish me
    • Not receiving discipline or boundaries
  • Type B – bad things that happen to us Death, divorce, verbal abuse, sexual abuse, abandonment by spouse or parent, etc.
  • Another trauma – we don’t have anyone with whom to share our story

Rejection

I am not loved, wanted or desired.

I am bad, dirty, shameful, stupid, and worthless. (Because of what happened to me I am unlovable; I will never recover.)

  • Example – wound of abandonment and rejection (parents’ divorce)
  • Lie/belief – I am not loved. I am all alone.
  • Inner vow – I will never be vulnerable again or trust anyone so I can’t be hurt. (self-reliance, isolation)

Jesus experienced trauma…

  • During His passion – continued to rely on the Father, and not on Himself
  • Tree of Life – trusting in the Father’s love
  • Could resist the temptations in the desert because He was totally free, dependent on the Father
