Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)

Project Update

Approximately 200 more meters to install
Increase revenue has occurred because of accurate readings
Citizen Portal will be created after all meters installed
Utilities is identifying leaks electronically and notifying consumers of the issue for quicker responses

EV Charging Stations

Wasn’t awarded federal grant
Requested to be one of the VDOT grant award locations
Continuing to look for grants and encourage commercial developers to include in their plans

Bee City Committee

Outreach to over 870 kids including before and after school programs and field trips
Participated in numerous events as an educational vendor and reached more than 1,300 attendees
Maintaining existing Pollinator Gardens and adding one this fall

Trails and Multimodal Paths

Roaring Springs Road Multimodal Path – Public Meeting for expansion. Approved portion will be out to bid in 2027
Main Street Multimodal Path – Cost prohibitive with available funds, shorter path not worth it, project has been paused
Gloucester Point Route 17 Multimodal – Public hearing, majority of responses were negative. ROW work is underway, and project is to go to bid in 2029.
Greate Road sidewalk – ROW work in progress and project is to go to bid in 2027.

Connection between Gloucester Point and Tyndall's Point – Proposed – Board would not approve grant submission because of the required match
Small connector sidewalk near Gloucester High School – approved for 2027
GHS to Main Street Greenway – Proposed but no activity yet

Hazard Mitigation Program

Completed last house that had appropriate level of funding and paused all other work. Citizens have been notified.

CRS Program – Level 5 – Working with other communities to try and get to the next level and to make sure we maintain current status

Sustain and Strengthen Salt Marshes

Design and Implementation Grants – over $10,000,00 awarded

The Guinea Marsh's natural shorelines are eroding up to 5 feet per year.
Large natural marsh system, is under significant threat of severe coastal erosion and marsh vegetation loss (drowning) alongside rising sea levels and more frequent and intense storms.
Hazards also threaten the vulnerable rural coastal communities and populations of the Guinea area, specifically homes, nature-based businesses, local heritage, and infrastructure (i.e. roads, bridges, underground utility).
Project will sustain and strengthen the ecological vitality of tidal salt marshes in the lower Chesapeake Bay, Virginia’s historic fishing communities and businesses, and local private property by implementing comprehensive ecosystem restoration and long-range planning strategies at Guinea Marsh Wildlife Management Area and adjacent publicly owned marsh islands.

Ideal setting for implementing nature-based living shoreline restoration and optimizing designs for restoring marshes, dunes, beaches and seagrass
